Louis Mailloux, La Compagnie Viola Léger
This year, the Honorary Award will go to Viola Léger. It is difficult to disassociate Viola Léger and La Sagouine, the wonderful, frank cleaning woman she meticulously and passionately plays. It was the role that launcher her prolific stage career. She is often seen performing other works by Antonine Maillet: La joyeuse criée, La contrebandière, Le bourgeois gentleman, Évangéline Deusse. She also stood out in La visite des sauvages, Harold et Maude, House of Bernarda Alba, The Gin Game, Albertine en cinq temps and Grace et Gloria. Her performance in Grace et Gloria earned her the Masque de la meilleure actrice de l’année, in 2001. Energetic and dedicated, Viola Léger continues to inspire a new generation of artists with her enthusiasm, generosity and great talent.
In addition to announcing the Éloizes 2012 finalists, the AAAPNB unveiled the graphics associated with the event, created by Productions Rouj artistic director, Jacques Rousseau. The design concept plays with and contrasts shapes. It represents both the artists who make their mark and excel and a participating, active public that inspires the artist. Those taking part will gather center ice at the K.C. Irving Regional Center with the hosts and finalists Marie-Philippe Bergeron and Gabriel Robichaud.
The mandate of Événement Éloize is that of recognizing excellence in six artistic disciplines in Acadie. The event also helps artists and communities develop bonds and honour those who bring new energy to the development of Acadie in the 21st century. Lastly, it is also a key event in that it fosters a sense of Acadian belonging and pride.
