APPEL: palimpsest PLATFORM: Call to Filmmakers & Video Artists

PLATFORM announces a call for submissions for film + video in response to the theme of the palimpsest. A screening will be presented in conjunction with PLATFORM’s palimpsest year and will take place in the Artspace Building.

Taking our cue from the historical phenomenon of the palimpsest as a scroll or text that is written only to be erased in order to make room for the inscription of new ideas, PLATFORM is currently in a year-long investigation into how photography and its sister media, film and video, can act as contemporary palimpsests or re-writable texts. Winnipeg is a prairie city where you can see a snowstorm coming three days away. The flatness of our location holds with the possibility that we take in not only the periphery but also the past and future. palimpsest, should not be mistaken as a sentimental elucidation about the past. It explores a rhizomatic vision of past, present, and future in various simultaneous possibilities.

Specifications:

- Film +/or video of all genres accepted / multiple submissions welcome
- Artist fees will be paid
- Emerging/Established artists are invited to submit
- 10 minutes per title maximum
- Submissions must be received on dvd
- Submission material will not be returned
- e-mail submissions with links are also accepted with « Palimpsest call » in the subject line

Deadline: 03 July 2012
Notifications: 28 September 2012
Screening: Friday 30 November 2012
