Embedded is Sound and Music's artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of artists from a range of disciplines into real-world artistic contexts with leading national creative organisations. Aimed at talented artists at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and significant creative opportunities. 

As part of Sound and Music’s Embedded programme, we are currently offering three residency calls:

The Pitt Rivers Museum cares for the University of Oxford's collection of anthropology and world archaeology. The museum’s holdings include objects, photographs, manuscripts, sound recordings, and film. Oxford Contemporary Music produces and presents new music and sound based events and installations in a wide variety of settings. The Forestry Commission England is responsible for protecting, expanding and promoting the sustainable management of woods and forests and increasing their value to society and the environment. The organisation looks after a diverse range of environments, more than 1,500 forests and woods in England, including 40 key forests and 24 visitor centres. Fast becoming known for its inventive, individual and dynamic programming, Manchester Camerata has been performing high quality chamber orchestra music for almost 40 years. Sound and Music is seeking to attract the widest possible range of artists to apply to these residencies. This trio of calls is designed to attract everybody from composers working with musicians in ensemble contexts to artists interested in creating installed work in the natural environment. The only excluding artistic criteria is that you must work with sound and listening as part of your ongoing practice. Artists may apply for more than one call but may only take up one residency if selected.
