The prizes will be awarded at the Éloizes Gala, the highlight of the Éloizes Event which will take place in Dieppe, under the artistic direction of Jac Gautreau, from May 4 to 8, 2016.

Ms. Carmen Gibbs, Executive Director of the AAAPNB and producer of the Éloizes Event: “When we announce the finalists, it's a little like setting the table for the guests we've invited. There's a feeling of anticipation... We want to whet your appetites for the day in March when we'll be revealing the program for the Éloizes event. There's no doubt in my mind that the finalists we've introduced today are already winners.”

This year, the Tribute Award will be given to Léonard Forest for his lifetime body of work.

Filmmaker and writer Léonard Forest gave Acadian cinema an opportunity to acquire a reputation for excellence. At the same time, he has pursued a literary career characterized by originality, beauty, and refinement. The numerous films he made about Acadie, from Les Acadiens de la dispersion, La noce est pas finie, Un soleil pas comme ailleurs and, in the mid-1950s, Les aboiteaux, for which he wrote the screenplay, highlight his role as the pioneer of Acadian cinematic arts.

As well as having a prolific career for more than 30 years with the National Film Board, contributing to the production of approximately 150 films as screenwriter, director, editor or producer, Léonard Forest was the instigator of Studio Acadie in 1974. Part of the French-language program at NFB, Studio Acadie became the hub of Acadian film production.

As well as his work in film, Forest has published three books of poetry, Saisons antérieures, Comme en Florence and Le pommier d'août, and a remarkable collection of essays entitled La jointure du temps. He is the author of two stories for children: Les trois pianos and Ni queue ni tête.

The mandate of the Éloizes is to recognize excellence in Acadie in six different arts disciplines. The event also allows artists and communities to create closer connections and to honour those who give new energy and spirit to the development of contemporary Acadian culture. Finally, this important event has, since 1998, made a lasting contribution to the sense of identity and belonging by showcasing the talent and achievements of Acadian artists.  leseloizes.ca
