APPEL: National Call for Proposals from Artists and Curators for Urban Screen Art Projects

Digital screens and billboards offer new sites for the public display of arts and cultural projects, and new opportunities for the exchange of ideas. The 2013 Art in Transit program features 25 local and national projects on a variety of Pattison ‘urban screen’ and print media across Canada.

Pattison Onestop is now accepting proposals by artists and curators for original projects to include in our 2014 Art in Transit program. Possible venues/media include the network of screens in the Toronto subway system; screens in the Edmonton LRT; screens in the Calgary airport; our national digital mall network of over 300 screens, and digital billboards. Most of our screens are silent, and interactivity is not possible. We also occasionally work with HD (and 4K) video walls and print media such as subway posters and bus cards.

Video, animation, photo, digital imagery, illustration, text and conceptual projects are acceptable. Work for the Toronto and Edmonton transit can be produced as a series of 30 or 60 seconds pieces. Work for our network of shopping mall screens can be produced as a series of 15 or 30 seconds pieces. Please note that artwork is screened once every 10 minutes on the TTC and once every 5 minutes on the mall network.

Work for digital billboards can be produced as as series of 6 or 8 second pieces. Some digital billboards support video (8 seconds) and some support still imagery (6 seconds). Please note that artwork is screened about once per minute on digital billboards.

Artists are reminded that their work will exist within the context of a public forum and should reflect an awareness of such an open platform for artistic communication. Depending on the scope of the project, artist fees may be available.
